Neshkoro looks out for Neshkoro.

The Neshkoro Area Fire Department is all volunteer: a couple dozen neighbors, paid per call, running one station on South Main Street for the village and the country roads around it.

All volunteer. Paid per call. One station, 610 South Main Street.

Run by neighbors, not headquarters.

A department made of the people it protects.

There are no career firefighters here and no full-time staff. The roster is a couple dozen paid-per-call volunteers: farmers, tradespeople, and parents who carry a pager and leave the dinner table when the tones drop.

One station, at 610 South Main Street, covers the Village of Neshkoro and the rural roads around it in Marquette County. When you call for help, the people who answer are the same people you see at the grocery, the ballfield, and the church potluck.

Community listings describe a department that has looked after this village for generations. The chief and the crew keep that going, one call at a time.

The village gathers here.

A fire department in a town this size is more than trucks and tones. It is the crew that shows up when the whole village turns out, and the reason the doors open on the days that make Neshkoro feel like home.

Summer

Fourth of July

The kind of celebration the whole village turns out for, with fireworks after dark and live music into the evening.

Fall

Trick-or-treat night

The station opens its doors to the neighborhood, one of the small traditions that keeps kids and firefighters on a first-name basis.

Year-round

Pizza fundraisers

A few times a year the crew fires up a fundraiser that helps keep the trucks running and the community fed at the same time.

These are the kinds of traditions neighbors tie to the department, per community listings. For current dates and details, follow the crew on their Facebook page.

Answer the call.

You do not have to be a career firefighter to start. This is a paid-per-call department: neighbors who train together, then show up when the pager goes off. If you can give some evenings and the willingness to learn, there is a place for you on this crew.

The fastest way in is a message or a phone call. Reach out, ask your questions, and meet the people you would be standing next to.

  • No experience requiredThe crew helps new members learn the job from the ground up.
  • Paid per callVolunteers are paid for the calls they run, on their own schedule.
  • Serve your own townEvery call you answer is for a neighbor, a road, or a place you know.

Support your department.

The Neshkoro Area Fire Department is a registered fire protection district. A small department stays strong because the community keeps showing up for it.
